We need you to take action- Locally and in Lansing. Make Posters for your car.

Submitted by Steering.Jim on Sun, 05/15/2011 - 14:52

When Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons recorded "Silence Is Golden",
I don't think they were referring to groups like ours. Are there any
real progressives out their who are at all interested in action or is
this group only committed to the silent philosophical aspects of

We need to be planning and carrying out political action in our local
communities and not just going to Lansing and Detroit when the call
goes out.

Here's a great idea of activism.

Make several signs on poster board and carry them in the trunk of your car. When there's a parade or festival or even a traffic jam on your local street pull out your signs and let 'em know how you feel! Need a message? Take inspiration from one local activist who's sign read: Send Governor Snyderengler To China Bring Our Jobs back Home". She received an overall very positive response.

By the way, I hear recall petitions for Snyder will be ready as early as July 1, 2011. Sign up online if you are interested.

Koch Brothers Products to Boycott

Submitted by Steering.Jim on Sun, 03/06/2011 - 08:36

Many have been asking how to fight the Koch Brothers and their Union-busting assault on our American middle-class friends and family. For those of us working on take back our political process and our country, the Koch brothers represent the worst offenders of those wealthy corporations who are buying up our government officials to push their agenda, not ours. Many have already joined a boycott of the following products. Won't you join us too? While it might not seem like much, we know that when we all band together we can hurt their pocketbooks. The bank account is the place that motivates Republican businessmen the most. Join us and let's see if we can't change some behaviors. We certainly don't need to be helping billionaires get richer when they have an agenda to make the rest of us poorer and dependent on on them with our every paycheck.

Here's the product list being boycotted:

Angel Soft toilet paper
Brawny paper towels
Dixie plates, bowls, napkins and cups

Election News 2010!

Submitted by Steering.Jim on Sun, 10/03/2010 - 21:37

Hello fellow Democrats and friends of Democrats!

It's election time again. One of the extra important elections of all times is fast approaching! Those people elected in Michigan in just under one month will be instrumental in the redistricting of Michigan! Do you want a Republican to do that? Or would you like your friends in the Democratic Party to have the majority rule in this process? I hope it's the latter!

Already absentee ballots are in the mail. Your help is needed immediately to make calls to voters. There are many creative uses of technology going on this election including calling from home, facebooking, texting, tweeting, and so much more. Of course the traditional ones still remain the favorites like door-knocking and phoning voters.

No matter what your ability, there is a place for you!

Volunteer online for any of your favorite candidates or groups.

Gary Peters is a mighty fine candidate who walks the walk for our progressive issues like repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell.

This is a must see 90 second clip.

This clip features the responses of Andrew "Rocky" Raczkowski and U.S. Representative Gary Peters to a question about DADT. Raczkowski is challenging Peters to represent Michigan's 9th Congressional District, currently held by Peters.

The Afghanistan War is too costly and not winnable. Selected Articles cross posted from Carol C.

Submitted by Steering.Jim on Tue, 08/03/2010 - 20:15

I have Afghanistan on my mind a lot lately. I read what our contemporary progressive writers and speakers are saying and wonder what it will take to stop the endless war. Here's a selection of articles on Afghanistan from Commondreams. I pasted representative text under each link. I share it with you in hopes you will share it with others. ~ Carol C.

“The Afghanistan War is too costly to continue. ~Phyllis Bennis

The WikiLeaks documents provide a treasure trove of evidence--of what we already knew. This war has already failed. Every death, of civilian and soldier, is needless. The cost of this occupation and this war--in Afghan blood, in U.S. and NATO military blood, in billions of dollars needed for jobs at home and real reconstruction in Afghanistan and elsewhere--is too high.

We need to stop the funding now, bring the troops and contractors home, support regional diplomacy, and begin the long effort of repaying our huge debt to the people of Afghanistan and Iraq.”

Thanks to WikiLeaker, Afghan War Will End Soon ~ Ted Rall
